Abstract

Assessing student academic performance is complex due to socio-economic, psychological, and environmental factors. Over 20 years, Indian education has become a profitable industry focusing on quality education for market demands. This study aims to identify factors affecting student performance and assess gender-based variations in academic performance. Utilizing a descriptive research design, primary data collected through survey questionnaire among 100 management students, employing systematic sampling technique. Data analyzed using chi-square test for categorical variables and factor analysis for condense variables. Analysis revealed that 50% of students score 60-70%, 30% between 50-60% and 20% between 70-80%. Factor analysis identified six components such as Pedagogy and parental expectation level; Health & attitude towards management; Rewards for Academic Performance; Education Background, faculty support, class discussion and peer relationship; Attendance, quality of assignment, hostel facilities, family stress, parental education; Co-curricular activities and financial constraints. Recommendations to the administrators made based on the results includes- improving health facilities, addressing attendance barriers, scheduling co-curricular activities outside of class time, and adjusting study hours based on students' educational backgrounds.
