Abstract

Every citizen has a right to live his/her life according to his wish without any discrimination. It can be achieved when all individuals are considered equal irrespective of their caste, religion, language, colour, profession, status, and sex. The most prominent discrimination that we observe is gender inequality. The present study primarily focuses on assessing the attitudes of students studying in co-education and gender-specific upper primary schools toward gender equality in the Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh.

The descriptive survey method was used in the study. Further, the cluster Sampling technique was used for the selection of the sample of the study. From Co-Education gender-specific schools, in the Varanasi district, 200 students studying at the upper primary stage were randomly selected and participated in the study. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics, percentages, bar-diagram, and non-parametric Chi-Square inferential statistics. Students studying in upper primary schools in the Varanasi district were found to have positive attitudes towards gender equality. The study further reveals that comparatively girls have a better attitude toward gender equality. The attitudes of students studying in co-education and gender-specific upper primary schools in the Varanasi district were found similar in nature.
