Rajasthan, India's largest state by area, is renowned for its unique flora adapted to the harsh conditions of arid and semi-arid climates. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the diversity and ecological significance of plants and shrubs in Rajasthan, highlighting their adaptations to extreme weather patterns and their crucial role in sustaining local biodiversity and ecosystem services.

The study categorizes the flora into three main habitats: desert, semi-arid, and oases/riparian zones, each hosting distinct plant communities. Desert adaptations include xerophytic species such as cacti and succulents, renowned for their ability to thrive in low-water environments. Semi-arid regions are characterized by thorny shrubs, grasses, and small trees capable of withstanding moderate water availability. Oases and riparian zones support a variety of plant species crucial for providing habitat and resources in otherwise arid landscapes.

Ecologically, Rajasthan's plants and shrubs play significant roles in soil stabilization, water retention, and carbon sequestration, thereby contributing to the resilience of local ecosystems. They also serve as vital habitats for diverse wildlife, including endemic and endangered species adapted to desert life.
