Abstract

Since man is a social being, he has to be bound by some social customs and spiritual canons for the peaceful and harmonious co-existence. The clash between these social and religious rules and personal vested interest has been a recurring phenomenon in human history. Despite all these, Indian society has been a society governed by moral, religious, and cultural values with its emphasis on peaceful existence and help for others. Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam is motif of Indian culture. But the modern materialistic culture bestowed upon us is breaking those cultural and religious ideologies rapidly. Modern man has reversed his journey from parhit (welfare of others) to swahit (personal benefits). Technologically he seems to be advanced enough but as a human he is retreating to primitive ages.
