In Vedic astrology, the Sanskrit word Kāraka (कारक) means "significator"—a planet that represents or influences certain areas of life. A Kāraka is considered the cause or agent behind specific events, relationships, and experiences in a person’s life. It shows which planet is responsible for producing certain outcomes in the birth chart.
Kārakas help astrologers understand how strong or influential a planet is in relation to a particular life topic. For example, Jupiter is the natural karaka (significator) for children. If Jupiter is well-placed in the chart, it may bring blessings related to children; if it is weak or afflicted, it may show challenges in that area.
