Some Aspects of Kashmir Culture as reflected in Vernacular Poetry (1846-1947)

Abstract

The meaningful re enactment of past has entailed an all out search for sources. The use of non conventional sources, especially imaginative literature as a potential repository of historical information has helped in doing people’s history .Vernacular poetry may be key to understand pulse of time and help to decipher the patterns culture. The present paper is a humble attempt to use vernacular poetry to supplement the available information on the contours of Kashmiri culture. The study attempts foregrounding the dominant trends in  culture of Kashmir during the period under study
